ME

I am a Black and queer artist from Los Angeles, California. As a multidisciplinary artist, I have long embraced an entrepreneurial mindset, used my creative talents to engage in community organizing for BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and other intersectional groups. For me, this work is both a form of artistic expression and a powerful act of activism.

Family plays a big role in my life. They have helped me to believe in what I have to offer the world by fostering creativity and instilling in me to always be genuine and unapologetically myself .

I founded Zel Hooks as a slow fashion brand that strives to make crochet fiber art accessible to the community. I started out by selling pieces while in college just to make a few extra dollars while I was unemployed. Now, pieces can be found online, by commission, or by connecting in person while vending. Since the main driving force behind Zel Hooks is accessibility, you can expect there to always be affordability and quality behind the art that I create.

Being the creative being that I am, I have recently founded a collective called MAD LA, which celebrated its debut art exhibition in October of 2024 in a show titled “Bloom”. The show emphasized the need for community, authenticity, and evolution and featured a select few of emerging artists across mediums from all over. MAD LA was founded as an effort to create safe spaces for Black creatives, and giving a voice to marginalized groups by giving them a platform. I am inspired by local artists and enjoys supporting them to help enhance their exposure.

This is only the beginning of my journey.
